What is glycolic acid?
Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid, often abbreviated as AHA. This acid is derived from naturally occurring, sugar-free fruits, including pineapple and papaya. Glycolic acid is water-soluble, so the skin quickly absorbs it. Glycolic acid exfoliates the skin and stimulates cell renewal. This causes dull skin to regain luster, and pimples and impurities are removed.
Why use glycolic acid?
Glycolic is effective at removing the outer layer of dead skin cells for clear, fresh, and youthful-looking skin. Therefore, products with glycolic acid are often used to combat scars, skin discoloration such as pigmentation, and visible signs of skin aging such as lines and wrinkles.
Benefits of Glycolic Acid
- Contributes to an even and radiant complexion
- Tackles skin problems such as uneven complexion, fine lines, and wrinkles.
- Hydrates the skin
Protect your skin
Using glycolic acid makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight. This is because you remove the dead skin cells from your top layer of skin. It is, therefore, important to protect your skin from sunlight when using glycolic acid in your daily skincare routine. Our advice is, therefore, to always apply sunscreen with SPF during the day. That way, you prevent glycolic acid from having the opposite effect because that would be a shame...;
